FROM: Colin Glass, Chief Executive
It is with a great depth of sadness and regret that I advise that Adrian van Bysterveldt, our Farm Practice Advisor, passed away on Tuesday morning this week.
As we discussed at the regional updates, Adrian has been battling cancer and undergoing aggressive treatments over the past month.
While Adrian had been maintaining a positive and scientific outlook, unfortunately he was unable to beat this final challenge.
Adrian’s health deteriorated quickly in his final 48 hours, and he had his wife, Anne, and their children all at his side.
Adrian’s passion for dairy farming, pasture management, and for motivating people to progress within the industry was second to none. For many of us within Dairy Holdings Limited, he has not only been our teacher, counsellor, and work colleague, but also a close and loyal friend.
I know Adrian’s passing will come as a shock for many. His health challenge was only diagnosed as recently as mid-December 2018, and even one week ago he was concerned that he was not providing the support and guidance to the farm operators, supervisors, and staff that needed him.
Over the past few weeks, a number of Dairy Holdings Limited people have been providing support to the van Bysterveldt family. Our thanks go to Kieran Stone and Mick O’Connor for providing and coordinating this assistance as required.
While the last few weeks have been extremely trying, it has been amazing how the van Bysterveldt family have pulled together to support their husband and father. Adrian’s wife, Anne, along with their five children have returned home from all over the world to be there over Adrian’s final weeks.
For those wanting to send sympathy cards or flowers, please feel free to forward these to the Ashburton office and we can arrange for these to be delivered to the family.
The funeral details are as follows:
Lamb and Hayward
467 Wairekei Road
Monday, 4th February 2019
Over the next few weeks we will turn our attention to how we fill the gap that Adrian’s passing has created. However, now is the time to remember the good times and the unstinting generosity and support we have all received from one of our much-loved staff members.
Our condolences and best wishes are with Anne and the wider van Bysterveldt family at this very sad time.
